Patek Philippe Aquanaut ref. 5065/1a
The Patek Philippe Aquanaut needs no introduction—today one of the hardest watches to get from the boutique. But collectors are increasingly looking back to the original: the 1997 Ref. 5065A.
Launched as an entry-level steel sports watch to attract younger buyers, it was initially controversial—Patek's first rubber strap felt like a departure from tradition. Decades later, it's recognized as the genesis of the Aquanaut line, making it a must-have for serious collectors. At 38mm, the 5065A wears more like a vintage piece than the current 5167A, featuring the nicknamed "grenade" dial with its large central guilloche pattern, echoed in the strap's rectangular embossing.
This stunner comes with an Extract from the Archives and a metal bracelet.
